Teaching composers writing operas and vocal works with orchestra

Sheila Barnes was guest lecturer for the Composers’ Forum at Amsterdam Conservatory in January 2022. She spoke on “Issues for composers in writing for the Voice”. Composition students took part in one-on-one sessions with Ms. Barnes on Day 2 of her residency. One young composer with whom she worked, Primo Ish-Hurwitz (21, the Netherlands ), went on with his chosen piece-in-progress to win the Alba Rosa Viëtor Composition Competition in Amsterdam on 18 February 2022. This event marked Sheila’s third appearance on the Forum lecture series. She has also lectured on the Voice for the Jerwood Opera Writing Programme at Britten Pears Arts in Aldeburgh, England.
